If you ask 100 people to name their top choice for a honeymoon or anniversary destination, at least 30 of them would name Hawaii, according to a recent study. Visions of tropical palm trees swaying in the breeze, drinks in coconut shells and sexy hula dancers create a very romantic image!
People have asked me, "What is the best island/resort for honeymooners in Hawaii?" There are so many different answers, because it depends on the couple, their likes/dislikes, their budget, and their pre-conceived dreams of what their romantic vacation will look like.
Some of the top reasons honeymoon couples select Hawaii are:
you don't need a passport
there is no language barrier, currency exchange or visa requirement
it meets their vision of a tropical paradise
However, there are five main islands in the Hawaii chain that are open to tourism and each one of the islands offers a totally different experience. if you want to visit Pearl Harbor, Waikiki Beach, and like big city nightlife, shopping and crowds then Oahu is your answer!
Do you love to hike, paddleboard, kayak and being emotionally overwhelmed by the most breathtaking scenery on the planet? You would love Kauai, the "Garden Isle". Are you both fascinated by nature, history, the Polynesian culture and scientific wonders? The Big Island of Hawaii offers active volcanos, telescope observatories on top of snow-capped mountains, and historical and religious landmarks - too many to count!
How in the world can you decide which island, or islands will be perfect for you? Well, that's where I come in! I know the right questions to ask to help navigate the process and make sure that your special trip is custom-crafted just for you and your desires. Just because a neighbor enjoyed their resort last summer, doesn't mean that you will have the same result. Hawaii is not a one-size-fits-all destination...and you deserve the certainty that your priceless vacation time and money are spent on the trip that is just right for you.
Moving on...are you more the "country club" type, enjoying luxurious resorts and planning to spend most of your time lazing around the pool or on the beach? Maui sounds like the perfect fit. Want to get away from it all, play golf together, turn in early and enjoy peace and "small town" quiet? Lanai has an amazing Four Seasons resort you. will enjoy.
Respectful travel to any of the Hawaiian Islands, including Maui, is welcomed and encouraged, now more than ever. With the exception of Lahaina, Maui is open and there is plenty to see and experience. However, visitors are urged to be especially respectful and mindful in the following ways:
Visit with aloha, compassion and empathy.
Support local businesses.
Mālama (care for) Maui and give back to the community by signing up for an enriching volunteer experience (which I can help you select)
Learn about the historical and cultural significance of Lahaina but stay away from the area out of respect for the people and places that have been lost during the devastating fire. Please do not take photos of the area, even from afar.
