People explore a stone tower overlooking a cityscape with a river and trees. The sky is cloudy, creating a serene, historic ambiance.

It was not too long ago that I wrote about Budapest, the capital of Hungary. This time we'll explore the whole beautiful, historical, mysterious country.

Nestled in the heart of Central Europe, Hungary is a destination that continues to surprise and delight.

With its deep-rooted history, diverse landscapes, and a capital city that pulses with energy and elegance, Hungary offers a rich mix of cultural experiences and modern comforts.

For travel advisors, it’s a destination packed with potential — offering year-round appeal, excellent value, and a variety of experiences to suit every kind of traveler.

What you need to know about Hungary

Hungary is part of the Schengen Area, so no visa is needed for many travelers from the US & Canada.

Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport is a modern, well-connected hub, 9–10 hours from North America. Direct connections will available from Philadelphia and Toronto beginning spring 2026!

Hungary is a year-round destination, offering thermal baths and festive markets in winter, vibrant cultural events in spring and summer, and colorful landscapes perfect for autumn getaways.

Its thermal spas and bathhouses offer wellness tourism all year round, while spring and summer bring festivals, outdoor adventures, and scenic river cruises.

Hungary’s versatility makes it a powerful recommendation for a wide range of my clients.

The country delivers exceptional value, with luxurious accommodations and gourmet dining often priced lower than in Western Europe.

Budapest’s eclectic mix of ruin bars, rooftop lounges, and historic cafés add an urban edge, while the country’s UNESCO sites and charming countryside provide plenty of draw for culture and nature enthusiasts alike.

The capital remains a crown jewel; the thermal baths, grand boulevards, and Danube river views make it “The Paris of the East”. Budapest is a must-see.

Hungary’s appeal extends far beyond Budapest, offering a diverse range of experiences across its regions.

Lake Balaton, often called the “Hungarian Sea,” is Central Europe’s largest freshwater lake and a beloved summer destination.

Sandy beaches, charming resort towns, and vineyards dot the northern shore.

It is perfect for families, wine lovers, and and anyone looking for a relaxing lakeside escape.

Just a short drive away, Lake Hévíz offers a truly unique experience as the largest natural thermal lake in the world open to bathing.

Surrounded by lush greenery, the warm, mineral-rich waters are famous for their healing properties and year-round swimming.

Visitors can combine wellness and a touch of indulgence in this one-of-a-kind retreat.

Tokaj, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is Hungary’s most famous wine region, renowned for its golden Tokaji Aszú, often called the “wine of kings.”

Rolling vineyards, charming cellars, and centuries of tradition make it a must for wine lovers.

Beyond Tokaj, Hungary boasts diverse wine regions, from Eger’s bold reds to Villány’s full-bodied cabernets and Balaton’s crisp whites, offering travelers a rich tasting journey paired with history, culture, and warm hospitality.

Discover what’s happening across Hungary all year long—from lively festivals to cultural celebrations and seasonal markets.

For when you want a trip with lots of fun things to do, HUngary might be your destination.
