About a year ago I gave you a list of a dozen tried and true stress-busting travel tips; they are here.
It was the end of the summer season travel crush, and I reminded you that your travel doesn't have to end just because summer does; nor do you have to wait for the unavoidable holiday rush to get out of town. Go ahead...refresh your memory
And here we are again at the end of a busy summer. It was hotter than usual here this year, as far as temperatures go. Travel, however, was unexepectedly tepid in some destinations but blue-blazes hot in others. I think we should make the fall travel 'shoulder' season just as hot.
Before you embark on that journey, I have some new ideas to refresh and enrich last year's suggestions. My biggest travel tip comes at the end of this article.
Here are ten more travel tips…
🧳 Use Packing Cubes to Organize Your Luggage
Packing cubes are a game-changer for keeping your suitcase neat and making it easier to find what you need without rummaging through your entire bag. I had dismissed their effectiveness until I tried them myself
⌚ Set Up Your Phone for International Travel
Before departure, adjust your phone’s settings by turning off data roaming to avoid unexpected charges, and consider purchasing a local SIM card or international plan for affordable connectivity.
🌐 Download Offline Maps and Travel Guides
Even if you have a good international data plan, it’s wise to download offline maps and guides for your destination. Apps like Google Maps and Maps.me allow you to navigate confidently without needing internet access.
🛂 Keep Copies of Important Documents Securely Stored
Besides your passport photo, keep digital copies of travel itineraries, hotel confirmations, emergency contacts, and prescription information accessible but secure, such as in a password-protected note or encrypted cloud folder.
🥂 Explore Local Experiences Privately or Off Beaten Paths
Particularly for luxury travelers, seeking out unique, private tours or lesser-known hidden gems can transform your trip into a truly exclusive adventure.
💧 Stay Hydrated and Carry a Reusable Water Bottle
Travel can be dehydrating, especially on long flights or in warmer climates. Bring a collapsible, reusable water bottle to stay refreshed while reducing plastic waste.
🎒 Consider a Lightweight Daypack
A stylish yet practical daypack lets you carry daily essentials comfortably as you explore, leaving your hands free for photos and purchases.
🚶♀️ Adjust Your Schedule to Beat the Crowds
Plan to visit popular sites early in the morning or later in the day to enjoy a more serene experience and better light for photography. I can schedule these privately for the best times and experience.
🗓️ Give Yourself Buffer Time Between Connections
Especially when traveling internationally, allow extra time between flights or transfers to accommodate potential delays without stress. If you have traveled with me you already know I preach this, and I book your flights accordingly.
And my biggest travel tip - there will be none bigger - EVER.
🗺️ Travel while you can.
Because it can go away when you least expect it. Enough of that for now; it might be a story for another day.
