Adventure Travel Ideas, Part 5 - Cultural Connections

Updated: Jan 22, 2022

This week I complete my 61st trip around the sun. As I reflected on that, I was reminded that every day is a celebration of something, in an " It's the first day of the rest of your life" sort of way. So I encourage you to find something to celebrate; and thank you for sharing this journey with me.

And speaking of journeys (see what I did there?), inspiration for your next adventure continues this week with Part 5 of the series. This is the final part; you'll always have it to look back on for ideas. Parts 1 through 4 also reside here in the Blog section. I separated these ideas into 5 topics, but your itinerary will include a healthy mix of immersive opportunities for creating indelible memories: cultural experiences, adventures, the outdoors, relaxation, stimulating ideas for conversations and creativity, longed-for sights, delicious meals, top-notch service, and one-of-a-kind curations just for you.

Feel the rhythm. On a ten-day journey through Argentina and Brazil, cultural activities include watching a samba show (and learning to dance), and taking a cable car up Sugarloaf Mountain in Rio de Janeiro to watch the sunset.

Meet the Finns. In 2021, Finland topped the World Happiness Report. Allow me to plan a soul-satisfying vacation of steaming saunas, nature walks, cold-water plunges, and, if we time it right, awe-inspiring northern lights.

Learn a new craft. Guests staying at a Sedona’s resort can learn to make Southwest-style pottery while enjoying a glass of wine.

Follow in Madiba’s footsteps. On your nine-day South Africa journey devoted to the late president and activist Nelson Mandela, guests visit sites where major events in his life occurred.

Get a taste of Slovenian honey. Would you like me to arrange visits to Ljubljana and beyond to learn about the country’s beekeeping traditions through apitherapy spa treatments, cooking classes, and honey tastings?

Do some salsa dancing. Cali is widely known as the salsa capital of the world and my Virtuoso partner partner in Columbia can help me find the just-right place for you to try it out. I learned salsa in NOT Cali, let’s just say, but you can have THE authentic experience.

Watch a weaver at work. For guests traveling in South America, you can stop in the town of Curarrehue for a visit with a local Mapuche weaver, followed by lunch in a Mapuche ruka, or house.

Step onto the Silk Road. Visit the city of AlUla in Saudi Arabia, an ancient UNESCO site that was once on the crossroads of incense trading routes.

Wander through a busy market. During a seven-night sailing from Saigon to Siem Reap along the Mekong River, visit a bustling floating market and shop street-vendors stalls.

Learn all about anime. Yours is a nine-day tour of Japan that’s devoted to all things anime, from learning its history to visiting sites featured in films and comic books.

Attend a Bedouin feast. The stuff of story-books. Ask me to plan cultural excursions in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Fujairah, from belly-dancing performances to flightseeing by helicopter.

Appreciate ancient art. As a guest on a 21-day Indonesia cruise, visit Asmat’s stilted villages by Zodiac to learn about the region’s traditions and woodcarving.

Visit Peru’s Sacred Valley. Follow the Urubamba River by bike, visit archaeological sites, and learn about Incan culture. No one you know has done this and you’ll be the inspiration for their next vacation.

Forge your path into 2022, or even 2023. Discerning travelers are on the move once again, and your own adventure is awaiting just one thing...you!

'til next week!
